Touching Base with WUMBURI (Mozambique)

After an amazing and intriguing first interview, it was only right that Lapetitenewyorkaine touch base with one of its favorites WUMBURI originated in Mozambique.

LPNY: Since the first interview, (centuries ago) what has been WUMBURI's biggest step? How has it impacted the direction in which WUMBURI is headed?

W: Since our last interview I believe Wumburi has had much more exposure, not only nationally but also internationally. At the moment I believe our peak was our on-line feature on the ELLE online Magazine. We reached masses of people, who until today congratulate us on the hard work.

LPNY: Has WUMBURI expanded? In terms of partners, members, followers?

W: Wumburi is expanding everyday in all possible ways. In terms of staff today we have one in-house photographer which is Iria Marina from Iria Marina photography. We have partnered with a number of cultural groups that also promote and empower African culture, some of them being Buvuka ma Roots, Noites de Poesia and others to not be mentioned yet. We also have in agenda, to work with some well known international partners, of which we will share at the ideal time. Our work reflects the growth of our followers, they show us so much support reason why we keep striving to give them more material.

LPNY: How does WUMBURI now translate to the initial vision of WUMBURI?

W: WUMBURI has evolved so much but it always keeps in mind its initial vision. The beauty is that, within this vision there is so much to be explored. Every time we make an achievement we already have a new one in mind. The more we achieve, the more we want.

LPNY:  Where can we find WUMBURI today?

W: Wumburi today has become a non tangible thing. Its a feeling, its a value. Today you can find WUMBURI almost anywhere. More people wear African print clothing, we see more pride of being an African especially within the youth. Through our work we feel like more people have joined the movement towards the promotion and empowering of African Culture and Values.

LPNY: Are there any plans on the horizon for a more western expansion of WUMBURI? Perhaps New York?

W: OF COARSE!!! With hard work and dedication we will get there.

We look forward to seeing WUMBURI grow and keeping up with this wonderful trademark and inspirational collaboration of artists.
